SUMMARY:Tennis
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: We play social tennis\, the level of play is respectable\, but perhaps a little short of tournament class. We rotate partners for each of the three sets played and find this to be a great equalizer for players of various skill levels. Coffee after and time to talk about professional tennis and any other topic of interest. \nWHERE: Outdoors using some of Victoria’s excellent free tennis courts and Indoors at both Cedar Hill and Oak Bays’ indoor bubbles. \nWHEN: Play normally 9:00-10:30AM on Mondays & Thursdays\, unless indoors then often at 8:00AM depending on booking. \nWHO: Currently 12 players (not all play each event). Open to all VRMNC Members (and guests who may be interested in joining the club). \nBRING: Tennis gear\, sun glasses and your water bottle\, cash if indoor court for booking. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n 20240711 VRMNC Special Event - Tennis Tournament Award20240711 VRMNC Special Event - Tennis Tournament Award20240711 VRMNC Special Event - Tennis Tournament Players20240711 VRMNC Special Event - Tennis Tournament Players20240208 VRMNC Tennis - Coordinator Des Thank You\, Group20240208 VRMNC Tennis - Coordinator Des Thank You\, Group20230608 VRMNC Special Event - 2023 Tennis Tournament20230608 VRMNC Special Event - 2023 Tennis TournamentTennis 120181014 VMNC Tennis ActivityTennis 2

SUMMARY:VRMNC Speaker Luncheon - March 26
DESCRIPTION:PRESENTATION:  on “How to Interpret the News” by Dr. Eric Gorham (Club Member) \nSPEAKER:  Our March speaker will be Dr. Eric Gorham\, Professor Emeritus at Quest University\, and a new member of the VRMNC. \n \nThe event will take place on Thursday\, March 26\, at the Oak Bay Rec Centre\, doors opening at 11:30 am. \nAbout the talk:\nEric’s talk will look at biases in the news media.  It will be an analysis of the media going well beyond simple “liberal/conservative” stereotypes; he will argue that there are biases more insidious than ideology that afflict the media.  These biases have helped lead to the decline of traditional news media (the so-called “mainstream media”) and the rise of a new kind of news culture (social media\, blogging\, etc.).  Eric will also discuss where to find a variety of reliable news sources and political ideas and will give hints as to how to critically examine political news stories from both mainstream and non-traditional sources. \nMore about Eric…\nEric Gorham is Professor Emeritus at Quest University\, where he was a founding faculty member and taught political science from 2007 until 2022. Eric has also been a faculty member at Loyola University New Orleans and has taught at Concordia University in Montreal. \nTICKETS: Click + sign then click Get Tickets. When complete you will receive two emails\, 1) payment receipt from PayPal\, and 2) ticket from software. If you do not get these two emails you have not completed your ticket.  Sales cutoff is March 22 at 6pm.\n(NOTE: The new price for lunch\, reflecting increased charges from the Rec Centre\, is $42.50 per head.) \nWAITLIST: Contact Hugh Stephens (principal@tpconnections.com\, 250-813-0339) if the event is sold out.

SUMMARY:Social Bridge
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: Beginners are welcome but some knowledge of the game and playing experience are required. We\, in general\, follow Standard American bidding conventions and ACBL contract bridge rules. That said\, the emphasis is on fellowship and fun\, not competition. Currently there are four groups. \nEach group consists of a core group of 8 to 10 players who meet on a regular schedule. Frequently core group players are not able to play on a given night so a list of spares is maintained for all groups and players to call upon. This gives spares many opportunities to play and to get to know other VRMNC Members. \nAnyone interested in playing in a social context is encouraged to contact the Coordinator to learn more and to put their name forward for the spares list. \nWHERE: Regular players host at their homes on a rotational basis\, occasionally use Zoom if snow etc. \nWHEN: Most groups play weekly at nights or afternoons\, some stop for summer. \nWHO: Open to all VRMNC Members. VRMNC Members wishing to play should join the spares list for opportunities to play and be positioned to join a group on a regular basis when vacancies arise. \nBRING: There are no fees to play but many groups have a $1 ante to play each evening. The proceeds are divided amongst the top two and the lowest player of the evening. The host supplies the cards\, beverages and snacks. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n VRMNC Social Bridge\, Logo20250729 VRMNC - Tuesday Night Bridge20250729 VRMNC - Tuesday Night Bridge20250624 VRMNC Bridge - Garage For A Change20250624 VRMNC Bridge - Garage For A Change20250616 VRMNC Bridge - Annual Tournament20250616 VRMNC Bridge - Annual Tournament\, Awards20240702 VRMNC Bridge - Ken's Hosue at Willis Point20240702 VRMNC Bridge - Ken's House at Willis Point20240617 VRMNC Bridge - Tournament\, Awards20240617 VRMNC Bridge - Tournament\, Awards20240617 VRMNC Bridge - Tournament20240617 VRMNC Bridge - Tournament20230704 VRMNC - Bridge\, Willis Point20230704 VRMNC - Bridge\, Willis Point20180625 04 VMNC 2nd Annual Social Bridge Tournament\, Game Time20180625 03 VMNC 2nd Annual Social Bridge Tournament\, Awards20180625 06 VMNC 2nd Annual Social Bridge Tournament\, First & Second Awardees20180625 01 VMNC 2nd Annual Social Bridge Tournament - Social20170626 03 Bridge Tournament20170626 02 Bridge Tournament
