SUMMARY:Field Trip - Tour of Parliament Buildings - April 9th
DESCRIPTION:Our next field trip will be on Thursday\, April 9th with a tour of the Parliament Buildings\, home of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia\, followed by lunch in the Parliamentary Dining Room.\nA design competition was held in 1892 for the new Parliament Buildings\, with 62 architectural firms from across North America responding. The winner – 25 year old Francis Rattenbury\, went on to become one of Victoria’s most famous architects whose projects include the Empress Hotel and the CPR Steamship Terminal.\nThe Parliament Buildings officially opened in 1898. \n \nWHAT: Tour of the BC Parliament Buildings \nWHEN: Thursday\, April 9th at 10:30 AM. Lunch reservation is at 12:00 PM \nWHERE: Meet inside the Main Entrance for a scheduled 10:30 AM guided tour. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to pass through security screening. \nWHO: Limited to the first 15 members who register on-line below. SUMMARY:VRMNC Speaker Luncheon - April 23rd
DESCRIPTION:PRESENTATION:  on “Heritage Acres: Past\, Present and Future” by Phil Clark \nSPEAKER:  Our April speaker will be Phil Clark. Phil is the current President at Heritage Acres. \n \nThe event will take place on Thursday\, April 23rd\, at the Oak Bay Rec Centre\, doors opening at 11:30 am. \nAbout the talk:\nPhil will summarize the history of Heritage Acres from its inception in the 1960’s to the present day. He will take you on a virtual train ride and a virtual tour of the 30 acre facility and will describe the significance of some of the buildings. He will then talk about some of the more interesting of 30\,000 or so artifacts in Saanich Historical Artifacts Society collections.\nPhil will discuss the many different ways you can get involved with the activities of this 100% volunteer run organization. He will also cover the planned development and revitalization efforts to ensure the popular community facility is preserved and improved for the benefit of future generations.\n \nMore about Phil…\nPhil Clark is the current President at Saanich Historical Artifacts Society and has been involved with the organization for about eight years. He has lived on the Peninsular for the last 15 years or so\,\nPhil is originally from the UK and had a fifty-year international career in the Marine and Offshore oil industries and shipbuilding until decommissioning himself and retiring to Cordova Bay. Apart from what seems like a full time volunteer position at Heritage Acres Phil enjoys sailing\, cooking\, sketching\, and painting. \nTICKETS: Click + sign then click Get Tickets. DESCRIPTION:Our next field trip will be on Thursday\, April 30th with a road trip to Maple Bay and the Hand of Man  Museum of Natural History\, Cultural Arts & Conservation.\nThis eclectic museum is home to the personal collection of Canadian outdoor writer Jim Shockey\, a professional big game outfitter\, television producer and host of numerous hunting shows. You will never have seen anything quite like this most interesting and unique exhibit! (www.handofmanmuseum.com) Lunch will follow at the nearby Lion Rampant Scottish Pub\, located on the water in Maple Bay.\nWe are planning to hire a small bus to transport us from Victoria to Maple Bay and back. \n \nWHAT: Hand of Man – Museum of Natural History\, Cultural Arts & Conservation in Maple Bay \nWHEN: Thursday\, April 30th\, departing at 9:30 AM. Lunch will be at noon and we will depart Maple Bay by 1:30 PM\, arriving back in Victoria by about 2:30 PM. \nWHERE: Meet outside the Tim Horton’s at 3501 Ravine Way for a scheduled 9:30 AM departure.
