VRMNC Speaker Luncheon – May 22

PRESENTATION:  The Swan Lake/Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary: It’s History, Role and Community and Education Programs

SPEAKER:  On May 22, Dr. Cara Gibson, Executive Director of the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary in Saanich will be the featured speaker will speak about the unique history and role of this Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary was established 50 years ago this year. Cara, who has a PhD in Entomology, and who taught in higher education for over 20 years, joined the Nature Sanctuary as a Board member in 2019 and stepped into the Executive Director position 5 years ago where she leads the Sanctuary’s work to protect its rare and threatened species, restore its ecosystems and grow its communities of practice and education.  She will be introduced by VRMNC member Terry Carson, one of more than 250 volunteers at the Sanctuary.

Please note that the lunch venue is once again at the Sports View Lounge on the 2nd floor of the Oak Bay Recreation Centre, 1975 Bee Street, near the intersection of Fort St and Foul Bay Road. There is substantial free parking at the Rec Centre. Overflow could consider parking in the Save On Foods shopping center or on Goldsmith. Doors will open at 11:30.
