VRMNC Speaker Luncheon – March 27

PRESENTATION: Navigating The Arctic Waters
SPEAKER: Our speaker in March will be Nigel Greenwood. Nigel is a retired Rear Admiral in the Royal Canadian Navy who in his “retirement” has taken on the role of Arctic Ice Navigator. Nigel advises masters in ships voyaging through the Northwest Passage and Canadian/Greenlandic Arctic waters. He will talk to us about his Arctic experiences.
Nigel completed his 37 year naval career as Commander of Canada’s Pacific Fleet. His early seagoing experience featured specialization in shipboard air-control and navigation, with service in Anti-Submarine Warfare tactical development and operations analysis as an exchange officer with the United States Navy. He holds a current Certificate of Competency as a Master Mariner, and is a Fellow of both the Royal Institute of Navigation and the Nautical Institute. He is also licensed as a security consultant and qualified as an Ice Navigator.
He is currently Principal Consultant with Greenwood Maritime, a full service maritime consultancy that offers risk analysis and assessment, strategic/operational analysis, emergency management, leadership and navigational training and ice navigation.
