The latest (and dare I say Great!) New Member Orientation took place November 8th, with 15 new members meeting each other and our VMNC Ambassadors, Bob Vance and Lou Sanche. At first glance, it might seem that while meeting new guys, new to Victoria or simply new to VMNC, is worthwhile, there was little point beyond that to justify an orientation. Doesn’t the website already do so?
Bob and Lou quickly found that those around the tables had plenty to ask about, so much so that the scheduled hour orientation extended beyond. New VMNCers learned about each other and then delved into every aspect of the Club. Perhaps most significantly, Bob and Lou reviewed monthly speaker luncheons, pub lunches and the thirteen or so other activities available to members.
If one were to collect modified phrases, the one phrase rising from the orientation was “Don’t see something, say something”. Stephen Harymann did not see darts on the activity roster and fortunately asked “why not? Thanks to Stephen, there just might be such an activity in the near future. John Waterhouse similarly noted the lack of a VMNC cycling group, which does seem odd, given the considerable number of cyclists in our midst. As you’ll note in an accompanying article, both Stephen and John may soon have both groups up and running. And this from new members at an orientation!!
The one unfortunate aspect of the November orientation was the sizeable number of our new members who were unavailable on November 8th, a Wednesday. Fingers crossed that the solution will be a second New Member Orientation on December 4th, this time a Monday.
So New VMNC members since January, 2016, please watch for an emailed invitation to you shortly. Although it will have the particulars nicely summarized, please add these details to your rapidly filling December calendar now. You won’t regret it – Guaranteed!
