On the morning of August 17, a Group of us had the pleasure of touring the Emily Carr Family Home and were met by the Curator Jan Ross, who also lives in the the family home. We first attended a lecture in the Dining Room, given by Jan, providing us with a brief history of the Carr Family followed by a question period. We then proceeded on a self directed walking tour of the home. There were many interesting historical items to see and provided for interesting discussions amongst ourselves. Later we were introduced to the leader of our Walking Tour, Molly Newman, who both dressed and acted in the role of Emily Carr. She was extremely entertaining as she led us on our tour of the Homes of the various family members and gave us a brief history of each person. At times she stopped to read us excerpts from one of Emily’s books, which provided us with many laughs! We proceeded to Beacon Hill Park to see a Bridge which had been built by a sister in honor of Emily Carr, as well as many other interesting things. Molly continued to provide us with may historical facts and entertained us with a wonderful portrayal of Emily Carr.
The Outing ended with Lunch with Molly at the James Bay Inn & Pub. She continued to regale us with stories of her own personal history, which is also very interesting! The Menu is quite extensive and the food tasty.
If you have not had the pleasure of doing the tour, I highly recommend it, as it is very worthwhile and provides a good history of life in the early days of our relatives.
